Cisco Systems traces its root to a couple who works at Stanford University. Sandy Lerner and her husband, Leonard Bosack, founded the company in December 1984.
The first product is the Cisco IOS. It is inspired by a unique Stanford University-owned technology called the Blue Box. Moreover, it is a router that links all computer networks in the school. It is locally developed and improved by a team of students and staff, including Bosack.

Seeing the potential in this router technology, Cisco was then officially born. The company started to spread its name with the help of a flexible network infrastructure software. Cisco acquires several companies from 1992 to 1994, enabling them to improve their technology. Consequently, they launched products such as Voice-over-IP and Fax-over-IP in the mid-90s.
By the 2000s, Cisco remains one of the top technological brands in the routing, switching, and security markets. In other words, they spread like wildfire expanding in the east and acquiring more businesses. By 2015, Cisco started to shift to Cloud-based products. Eventually, it launched Cisco Umbrella 2 years later. Cisco Umbrella is a cloud-based Secure Internet Gateway (SIG) platform that offers multiple levels of defense against virtual threats.
